What is Cookaborough?

Cookaborough is a simple yet powerful platform that makes starting, running and growing a read-made meal business a piece of cake. From admin through to marketing and sales through to ordering, Cookaborough will help you handle all the time-consuming operational tasks that take you away from the kitchen.

Who is Cookaborough designed for?

Cookaborough is for food businesses with the ability to produce and supply ready-made meals or home-cooked meals to their local area. It has been adopted with great results by caterers, chefs home-based food businesses and local food stores. It’s for small businesses with a handful of customers and for large business receiving thousands of orders.

What is the ‘batched’ ordering model?

The batched model with Cookaborough is very simple. You create and publish a menu that stays open for a set period of time in which customers can place their orders – typically a few days. Once the menu is closed you prepare the orders and then deliver on one delivery route or have a pick-up point. It’s a simple, efficient cycle that can be done weekly.

Are there any set-up fees or lock-in periods?

No. Our mission is to make it easy for food businesses to operate efficiently and to thrive. With this in mind we’ve made sure there are no lock-in periods, hidden costs, or set-up fees. At any point in time, you can stop using the platform without incurring any costs.

What does it cost to use Cookaborough?

We charge a 7.5% commission on every order you take and in return you get access to all features and functions of the platform. This covers all merchant and banking fees plus web-hosting. Importantly, the commission also includes public liability insurance. The fee structure is designed to provide flexibility, so you only pay when you work.

How do I pay commission on orders to Cookaborough?

It’s easy. The Cookaborough fee is taken out of the payment prior to going into your account each week. If you have customers paying cash, the fee is deducted from your payment account once a month.

How does Cookaborough’s insurance policy work?

Cookaborough users are covered by a customised policy provided by CGU Insurance, designed to meet the needs of a food business. The policy includes $AUD 5M of Public & Product Liability cover as well as other important cover that allows you to operate with peace of mind. A copy of the policy can be provided on request and is given to all businesses that operate on the platform.

re my recipes, ingredients, and customer details safe?

Yes. No one but you has access to your information, your recipes, ingredients or customer details. All information is secure and protected. We also do not store any of your customers’ financial details.

In which regions can I use Cookaborough?

The Cookaborough platform can be used by any business from anywhere within Australia. If you are from outside Australia and interested in the platform, please get in contact with us as we are currently looking for businesses to participate in a trial of an international version of Cookaborough.

What is a home-based meal business?

A home-based or ready-made meals business operates from a residential kitchen, providing meals and food to its local community. To operate from a home kitchen there are certain requirements, including registering your kitchen with your local council. Each council has slightly different requirements, so we recommend contacting your local council for more information.

Do I need a registered kitchen or food handling certification to use Cookaborough?

We require all businesses using the Cookaborough platform to be compliant with food safety standards applicable to their specific food business. As part of setting up a business on Cookaborough it is a requirement to upload a Kitchen Registration Certificate and Food Handling Supervisors Certificate.

How does Cookaborough work?

Cookaborough is customised software that provides an end-to-end solution for anyone operating a food business under a batched model. Each business on the Cookaborough platform has a private account where they can store recipes, create menus, manage customers, set-up promotions, and access food labels and analytic reports. The Cookaborough platform has been built to power and empower food businesses.

How do I create a Cookaborough account?

Creating a Cookaborough account is easy and takes only a few minutes to complete. Just click the ‘Sign Up’ button at the top of the page, enter your details and your away!

How quickly can I start using Cookaborough?

You can be up and running within just a few days. The onboarding process is straightforward so you can do it on your own, or Cookaborough has a team who can assist you if you need it. Either way, you can be ready to publish your first menu within a few days. We’ve seen some businesses get up and running in as little as 24 hours, others within a week.

Does Cookaborough help me find new customers?

Our find-a-cook feature allows people to search for cooks and businesses that service their postcode and to connect with them directly. It’s a feature that is increasingly popular and has helped businesses find new customers alongside their own marketing efforts. We will be developing this feature further to help businesses connect with new customers.

I already have an e-commence website. Can Cookaborough still work for me?

Absolutely. Cookaborough and your existing e-commence website can work together. For example, you can create links from your website across to your Cookaborough page and vice versa.

I want to mitigate from my existing e-commence platform to Cookaborough?

If you already have an e-commence website or are using a different e-commence platform for your ready-made meal business, making the transition is really straightforward. When migrating the main thing you will need to consider is updating of links/redirects in your socials, blog post and articles. But don’t worry, our team are here to assist you.
